OUR FOCUS: LOCAL POLITICS; GLOBAL IMPACT!
Who We Are
NIAMA was founded with a singular mission: to empower Muslims to actively engage in shaping the future of our democracy.
Through advocacy, education, and community-building initiatives, we strive to amplify the voices of our community and foster positive change.
Our Impact:
Since our inception, NIAMA has achieved significant milestones in our journey towards a more inclusive and participatory democracy. From legislative victories to community outreach efforts, our impact reverberates across Illinois and beyond.
MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER
Mr. Vaseem Iftekhar
Greetings and Peace,
Lake County is among the larger counties of Illinois and has one of the more diverse populations in the state. Educated estimates place the Muslim population of Illinois to be close to half a million, with many living in the northern suburbs, including Cook, Dupage, and Lake Counties. It is estimated that in Lake County alone, several thousand Muslims are eligible to vote.
The importance of your vote must be considered. Your local government decides on issues that impact our daily life, including schools, property taxes, parks and recreation, local roads, libraries, etc. As such, it affects our quality of life, including the education of our children. Local governments spend a substantial portion of your tax dollars in making decisions that impact our lives. It is, therefore, essential to elect leaders who share our values by getting to know their positions on matters that are important to us. In addition, we should also be participating and standing for local offices. Our youngsters should get the opportunity to learn leadership skills by working with elected leaders and developing skills in multiple areas of public service.
For this reason, NIAMA was formed to enhance the participation of Muslims in our democratic process. In the short period since its inception NIAMA, through your support, has achieved significant milestones, including the passing of crucial legislation impacting Muslim students, supporting candidates, and increasing pollical participation in Illinois.
